New Old Skool

So I was thinking lately that if someone came out with a new, safe, plastic version of the old skool leather helmets they could make a killing. Although I'm not sold on this being any safer than my snow hat, this one is dope, via R.E.Load.

Good times

A great little series found on The Year in Pictures. The description of this set of photos seems very on point:

"The writer Will Doig summed up their work beautifully. 'These photographs,' he said 'make me want to flee — not flee anything in particular, but simply flee for the pure elation that comes from irresponsibly picking up and leaving. Because what starts as irresponsibility so often turns into opportunity, and sometimes you just need a little nudge to make that leap. This series feels like a good, hard shove.'"
Irresponsibility turned opportunity. Good stuff.

Update: Had to add more from the source. Fun picts and this letter is great.

This might be the one

I wish it was a little bigger but it is Norwegian so that might make up the difference. Only 77 Euros as well.

"Digital" flip clocks

My brother had a great flip clock all through the 70's & 80's. At some point, in a fit of cleaning he tossed it and he's regretted it ever since. I've been on the lookout for one for a while because I think it'd make the perfect kitchen clock on top of the cabinets. This one on ebay isn't bad.

Paralam stair treads

I like this steel & wood staircase. Need to remember the paralam tread idea for the container house.

Tezuka Architects

The lovely Cindy Soo introduces me to her friends at Tezuka Architects. Naturally, I love their rectangular designs and especially their sense of indoor/outdoor space. Be sure to click through the house photos, some amazing stuff. I'm still not sure why Japanese bedrooms still seem to exhibit that I Love Lucy two twin beds setup though...

Japanese Furniture Trend

So I've been seeing this furniture trend from quite a few Japanese designers lately, it reminds me of dustbowl meets mid-century modern. I need to find the Wallpaper article about another very similar design house. I originally happened onto this site at hoping for happy accidents.

I'm Not the Only One . . .

. . . with the Carhartt bug. I really think you can do some good stuff updating them with other pieces as this gent has done on The Sartorialist.
